TERM FOUR CLASSES

Term four is always a busy term with every one getting organised for Christmas & many of us like to make something personal for our friends and loved ones. For Term four we have added some new designs to accompany our existing christmas catalogue so hopeful there is something for everyone.

Classes will again run on Monday mornings, Tuesday evenings & this term we are also running them on Saturdays. All the details regarding class times can be found on our Classes Page HERE

CLASS ONE - GETTING READY FOR CHRISTMAS
Four week class starting Monday 21st or Tuesday 15th October.
Choose to make one project or a few . . .

In recent weeks we have been busy designing & stitching new projects for Christmas. We stumbled across some gorgeous linen fabric in Calico & Ivy which led us on a journey of making a few vintage themed projects . . . not to say that these projects won't look fantastic in a traditional colour way or even a more funky & bright colour way!

NEW! - CHRISTMAS TREE SKIRT
We have been asked to produce a tree skirt to go around the bottom of the tree. If you are like me then it always looks a bit bare until the presents are all put under the tree on Christmas eve. Our tree skirt has six beautiful panels with little houses, christmas trees & Stars. I am still working on the hand quilting as I thought a bit of hand quilting would really add to the vintage feel I was after but here it is so far . . .

This project can be done quite quickly if you don't mind a bit of home work so you could get this made as well as something else in the four week class.

NEW! - ADVENT BUNTING
My house will have this gorgeous christmas advent bunting proudly displayed this year. This is two ribbons of flags, each flag has a pocket to pop a treat or a message into so we can count down the days to santas arrival.

We have plenty of other christmas projects to choose from - Santa Sacks, Christmas stockings, Yule tree table runner, Tree fairy & Christmas decorations. They are all listed on our patterns page HERE.

CLASS TWO - GIFTS FOR CHRISTMAS
Three week class starting Monday 18th or Tuesday 12th November.

Choose to make one project or a few . . .

Making gifts for friends & family is always a lovely idea for christmas. We have come up with some great kids projects with our peekaboo toy bags & purses & our cushion keeper to keep the favourite teddy or night time reading book in a safe place. There are plenty of ideas to choose from if you have a good look on our patterns page.

SATURDAY CLASSES
Getting to class during the week can be difficult so this term we have included three Saturday Workshops. If there is something from our Christmas class or Gifts class you would like to make, then you can book into one of the Saturday classes. We also have a scheduled workshop each Saturday relating to Christmas.

We are still working on more samples for classes so keep your eye on our Facebook pages as the pictures will be posted as they are finished.

Look forward to seeing you in class

Scrap Rug Workshop - A great afternoon.

What do you do with all your left over scraps? Well one great way to make best use of all those odd pieces is to turn them into a Scrap Rug. Claire and I spent a wonderful Saturday afternoon teaching 8 ladies just how to make a Scrap Rug all of their own.

It was not long before Scrap Rugs were starting to grow.

We are looking forward to seeing the finished Scrap Rugs.

Sew Along July, 2013 Retreat - A Picture Roundup

If you have ever wondered what a room full of creative women looks like then today here is an insight into what a bunch of ladies get up to on a Sewing and Stitching Retreat.

Up at the beautiful and picturesque Avalon Homestead Claire and I hosted 22 eager women for a weekend promised to be filled with inspiration, sewing, stitching, learning and laughter.

A massive bunch of Kaffe fabric cut into wedges to be turned into a quilt

The start of a Tokyo Subway Quilt

A stash of fabric that was being turned into an Under the Umbrellas Quilt

As the weekend went on those who were completing the Under the Umbrella Quilt workshop began to pin their blocks to the design board and it did not take long for this to fill with lots of colour from different ladies

Not only were there quilts being sewn but there were lots of ladies making bags, cushions, aprons, table runners, hobby bags, round cushion stacks and so many more beautiful projects.

A lovely neat stack of Liberty strips all ready to be sewn........... and then the creative part of jumbling them all up to be sewn in a random fashion - to make the stunning blocks you see below.

A Twisted Lone Star quilt

Some of the other quilts that evolved over the weekend. So pretty.

And here we all are! Looking forward to the next Retreat (already)!

Thanks to everyone we hope you had a wonderful, productive and relaxing time just as we both loved teaching you all.

SEW-ALONG NEW SKILLS - PAPER PIECING
3 week class starting Tuesday 23rd July 7pm - 9.30pm

Each term we try to include a class focusing on teaching a new skill or technique & term 3 will all be about paper piecing. Paper piecing has been around for years & it is a great way to achieve quite complicated patterns using your machine. We will be teaching a variety of different blocks from the very simply to the more testing! This class is not necessarily aimed at finishing a complete project but more about perfecting the techniques used to get great results.

This Aeroplane block would look great turned into a small quilt or play mat & the 'circle of geese' block below made a few times looks great turned into a table runner, bed runner & even a quilt
SUITABLE FOR THOSE WITH SOME SEWING EXPERIENCE

If you choose to make the cushions them the class will also teach you how to quilt the top, make the back with buttons or zips & how to add piping to the edges just to make them look really fabulous

Also new to the Sew-Along range is a new table runner & a very glamorous new kitchen apron. The runner combines a variety of techniques & the class covers a range of ways to quilt it.

UNDER THE UMBRELLAS

UNDER THE UMBRELLA QUILT 150CM X 150CM

Having fallen in love with Liberty Lifestyles Bloomsbury Garden range of fabric, Jemima & I were on the hunt for a quilt design that would suit the fabric as well as offering those quilters in class some new techniques to learn. We had both been inspired by various different versions on Pintrest so Jemima got busy & came up with this gorgeous quilt.

The blocks are made up using foundation piecing techniques & despite it's size it came together quite quickly. The design is traditionally known as a 'spider web'

This will be the feature workshop of our next Retreat in July so if you are coming along then join Jemima & have a go. All the fabric requirements are listed on the side bar or click the link here
